NEC has successfully implemented statewide and inter-state AFIS networks with interfaces to different Computerized Criminal History (CCH) systems. NEC's AFIS is based on an open-system platform that satisfies current interface needs for live scan and other record systems, ready for new interfaces in the future with minimal upgrade efforts and costs.

Interstate AFIS Networks
 |
Western Identification Network (WIN)
The Western Identification Network (WIN) has a central database shared by Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Alaska, Nevada, and Idaho. Each state has terminals connected to the central database located in Sacramento, California. WIN is also accessed remotely by agencies in California, Washington, and by several Federal law enforcement agencies. Started in 1989, WIN links 14 million records among the participating states. |
 |
A large interstate network of NEC AFIS systems connects eight systems in California to the WIN AFIS and two systems in Washington State. The combined database size of this network exceeds 25 million subjects, making it the largest AFIS network in the world. |
