Today, the close collaboration between NEC and Microsoft has been extended to include development and expansion of global sales of the next-generation of high-end servers and Fault Tolerant (FT) servers. For example, NEC engineers worked with Microsoft to develop the Dynamic Hardware Partitioning capabilities in Windows Server 2008. This operating system feature, when coupled with capabilities found in NEC servers, allows the addition and swapping of CPU and memory in a running server without interruption of mission critical business applications. It is especially useful for dealing with unexpected increases in server load as well as routine maintenance operations.
Much of the technical collaboration between Microsoft and NEC is managed by NEC's Redmond Technology Center which is located five minutes from the Microsoft campus. This organization is dedicated to supporting the Microsoft-NEC alliance relationship on a global basis.
- Unified Communications
As communication networks and data networks become more integrated through IP technology (e.g. VoIP phone), people expect to improve productivity in workplaces by integrating networks into the office environment. To meet this expectation, NEC and Microsoft have been working together on creating solutions that provide seamless integration of NEC's IT/Network convergence technologies such as UNIVERGE and Microsoft's Office System products. Together, NEC and Microsoft will strive to improve these solutions and meet our customers' demands.
- Systems Integration and Solutions Delivery
NEC and Microsoft recently announced an comprehensive, expanded alliance for business solutions, jointly developing system model-based solutions combining the products of both companies (servers, storage, middleware, application software, etc.), and organizing a collaboration team to market and sell solutions to enterprises and other organizations in the Japanese market.
- Patent Cross Licensing
Patent cross licensing between NEC and Microsoft promotes effective technology development and will provide faster development of high quality products based on business platforms.
- Multimedia PC Collaboration in Japan
As broadband services become widely available, the demands for PC and multimedia converged solutions are increasing in the consumer market. NEC and Microsoft continue to work on joint development of media PCs to meet these increased demands.
