D8 Series adopts building block architecture having the function and performance of high-end class storage. Upgrades are non-disruptive. Now you do not have to invest in enterprise architecture to achieve enterprise performance

From 8 host ports and 3 HDD (min.) to 64 host ports and 1536 HDD (max.).
Storage resources such as controller and HDD can be virtualized. The resources can be managed simply and flexibly by virtualization.
High availability technology with RAID 6 and RAID Triple Mirror

Building block
The D8 Series utilizes a building block approach. Host ports, disk capacity, cache and availability features can be added to meet business requirements. In addition virtualization features create additional flexibility. Resources can be virtualized and distributed dynamically. With the D-Series of Enterprise Modular Storage you can start with a small enterprise array and expand to a full level enterprise array.

Flexible expansion
The D8 Series can be flexibly upgraded to meet the customer's requirement. It is easy to increase the number of host ports when it is required to increase the number of the connected servers. It is also easy to increase the number of disk drives when it is required to expand the data capacity. In addition, when it is required to enhance the performance of the storage system can be seamlessly upgraded by just adding the nodes.

Resources can be changed non-disruptively and flexibly by advanced virtualization technology
Virtualization of resources is a key component in making sure that there are enough resources available to address contingencies. The NEC D8 Series provides virtualization technology that creates a resource pool that can be utilized at any time to address issues within the storage system. This capability provides a high degree of resource efficiency and is effectively managed by NEC storage management tools.

Partitioning
The D8 Series can be segmented into some logical partitions. Utilizing this capability resources can be added to or taken away from the partition flexibly and non-disruptively.

High availability technology
D8 Series incorporate high availability technology starting with the smallest configuration to the largest.

Redundant/Redundant Power Supplies Power is available even when three power supplies fail if the server path is duplicated.

RAID-TM provides the high speed of RAID-1 and availability of RAID-6 at the same time, so that the operation can continue even when double failure occurs to the HDDs.

Centralized management and operation by visualized Web client
The D Series offers GUI of Web client for every operation from installation to administration.

RAID Engine
Performance is enhanced with the NEC RAID engine which has high internal transfer speed. The load of the processor can be offloaded to the RAID engine.

SAS technology is leveraged

SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) has been adopted for the disk array.

"Wide Link" technology of SAS can use 4 sets of 3Gbps SAS interface in parallel, so that it realizes 12Gbps transfer speed.

MAID Technology to reduce the power consumption of disk drives
The D Series incorporates MAID technology. This technology allows customers to save power by allowing disks to be powered off.
