Virtualization of resources is a key component in making sure that there are enough resources available to address contingencies. The NEC D8 Series provides virtualization technology that creates a resource pool that can be utilized at any time to address issues within the storage system. This capability provides a high degree of resource efficiency and is effectively managed by NEC storage management tools.
Partitioning
The D8 Series can be segmented into some logical partitions. Utilizing this capability resources can be added to or taken away from the partition flexibly and non-disruptively.
High availability technology
D8 Series incorporate high availability technology starting with the smallest configuration to the largest.
Redundant/Redundant Power Supplies
Power is available even when three power supplies fail if the server path is duplicated.
RAID-TM provides the high speed of RAID-1 and availability of RAID-6 at the same time, so that the operation can continue even when double failure occurs to the HDDs.
When one of the host directors fails, the influence on the other controllers is minimal.
Cache Mirror Continuity
The D8 series offers two sets of mirrored pairs of cache. In the event of a failure cache mirrored is maintained
Centralized management and operation by visualized Web client
The D Series offers GUI of Web client for every operation from installation to administration.
Operational status of the system components such as Storages, connected servers, logical disks and physical disks can be visualized.
High Operability
RAID Engine
Performance is enhanced with the NEC RAID engine which has high internal transfer speed. The load of the processor can be offloaded to the RAID engine.
SAS technology is leveraged
SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) has been adopted for the disk array.
"Wide Link" technology of SAS can use 4 sets of 3Gbps SAS interface in parallel, so that it realizes 12Gbps transfer speed.
Saving energy
MAID Technology to reduce the power consumption of disk drives
The D Series incorporates MAID technology. This technology allows customers to save power by allowing disks to be powered off.
