ExpressCluster High Availability
Today, high availability (HA) is mostly driven by regulatory compliance, server consolidation, and increasingly complex applications and systems. Typical synchronous hardware clustering systems support high availability but at a price well beyond the budgetary goals of today's businesses. While some data-only replication solutions support asynchronous data replication or tape backup function; it often takes hours or days to resume operations and it still introduces data loss when unexpected downtime occurs and requires user intervention to restart applications. That can mean a significant loss of revenue, productivity and business reputation.

One of the challenges in designing an HA solution is examining and addressing all the possible causes of downtime. It is important to consider causes of both unplanned and planned downtime.

ExpressCluster is built to provide the cost-effective solution to protect both data and applications with 24/7 high availability.

High Availability Benefits:
To ensure business-critical data and applications are up and running by protecting against planned and unplanned downtime on all major application, server, and storage platforms
Reset the expectation on recovery objectives (Recovery Time Objective, Recovery Point Objective) to minutes
Reduce planned (OS, hardware upgrade...) and unplanned downtime (disk failure, natural disasters...)
Transparent failover and failback to end users without manual intervention (Virtual Server Identity)
Support synchronous and asynchronous disk mirroring
Lower total cost of ownership by using the existing deployed software (Standard, Enterprise Edition) and hardware in heterogeneous environment
Comprehensive and integrated management console supporting standard SNMP protocol

Once failure either in applications or data is detected, ExpressCluster can perform a variety of recovery actions. ExpressCluster can be configured to restart failed applications on the same server, reboot the server, or failover to a standby server. The configuration is easy and intuitive with the integrated management console from the application or web interface. For clustering with multiple servers, ExpressCluster supports prioritized failover sequence so the failover target is automatically tried in a user defined priority sequence.

By supporting multiple primary servers running and setting up 1 or more standby servers for failover, it considerably reduces the server resources utilization.
