(NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced communications, networking and IT solutions, today announced that the NEC suite of Fault Tolerant (FT) servers
now support VMware vSphere™
natively. With the adoption of virtualization for mainstream applications growing quickly, the need for continuous availability in these environments is becoming even more important. The introduction of VMware vSphere on the NEC FT systems delivers continuous processing to VMware guest environments with performance and simplicity never before available in a VMware environment.
The latest addition to NEC's premier server suite is designed to provide a simple, continuously availability solution that can be remotely managed with minimal IT resources. The NEC Express5800 R320a and 320Fd FT server series can be implemented quickly and easily to deliver continuous VMware processing and availability in the event of both planned and unplanned outages, offering the highest level of data integrity and availability for virtualized environments at a lower cost than other VMware high availability solutions.
NEC's sixth-generation FT Express5800/300 servers are a cost-effective solution to deliver redundant lockstep processing using the latest Intel® Xeon® CPU technology. "The introduction of VMware support on NEC's Fault Tolerant Intel Xeon platform will help accelerate the adoption of virtualization technology for mission-critical application workloads," said Pauline Nist, general manager of Intel's Mission Critical Segment. "NEC and Intel's collaboration on the fault tolerant platform technology means organizations can now leverage the benefits of a virtualized environment without sacrificing the mission-critical application workloads vital to their business."
"IT industry trends indicate that virtual machine densities per server are increasing as more applications and users are consolidated onto virtualized servers," said Mike Mitsch, general manager for NEC Corporation of America's IT Platform Group. "It has become a business imperative that IT managers consider hardware fault tolerant servers as a component of their overall business continuity strategy to protect these virtualized environments."
"As the tests from Principled Technologies show, the NEC Express5800 FT server provides scalable CPU performance within each VM and continuous operation-without data loss and with nearly unchanged performance-even in the face of a more catastrophic system failure. Furthermore, NEC's support of VMware on the FT server series brings fault tolerance to VMware environments at breakthrough price points and simplicity," continued Mitsch.
Pricing and Promotions
Pricing for the NEC FT servers with support for VMware starts at $18,799.
Through the end of September, NEC will also be offering a risk-free trial
to qualified NEC Express5800/R320a FT server customers in the US and Canada.
