NEC Recognized for Implementation of Industry-Leading Biometric Technology
OSAC certifies NEC’s advanced biometric solutions, including face recognition and matching algorithms, as a trusted leader in protecting communities and ensuring public safety
IRVING, TX – January 25, 2023 - In recognition of its accurate and ethical biometric technology, NEC Corporation of America (NEC) announced today that it was recognized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-sponsored Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) for adopting leading forensic science standards for utilizing biometric systems, including face recognition technology and other biometric matching algorithms.
NEC’s technology is used as a biometric solution by numerous law enforcement agencies and federal government organizations as a leading national security tool. Following laboratory testing, the company’s face recognition algorithms have also been recognized by NIST in recent years as being among the “most accurate ever evaluated,” consistently outperforming competitors both in the U.S. and worldwide. - NeoFace® Reveal – NeoFace Reveal (NFR) software delivers reliable face recognition by capturing, enhancing, organizing and matching video and graphic images to specific individuals, including images of poor resolution and with partial positioning. NFR is compliant with the ASTM E3115-17 Standard Guide for Capturing Facial Images for Use with Facial Recognition Systems and ASTM E3149-18 Standard Guide for Facial Image Comparison Feature List for Morphological Analysis.
- Integra-ID® MBIS – Integra-ID incorporates our latest biometric matching algorithms with service-oriented architecture to deliver a comprehensive solution providing ready access to fingerprints, palmprints, face, voice and iris matching capabilities. Integra-ID is compliant with the OSAC Friction Ridge Subcommittee’s Friction Ridge Process Map.
- SmartScan™ – SmartScan is a secure and easy-to-operate solution that enables NEC to transform livescan biometric technology through forensic-grade fingerprint, palm print, facial and iris images. SmartScan is compliant with the ASTM E3115-17 Standard Guide for Capturing Facial Images for Use with Facial Recognition Systems.
OSAC, administered by NIST and part of NIST's Forensic Science Program, was created in 2014 to address a lack of discipline-specific forensic science standards. OSAC fills this gap by drafting proposed standards and sending them to standards-developing organizations (SDOs), which further develop and publish them.
OSAC’s 475-plus members work in forensic laboratories and other institutions around the country and have expertise in 22 forensic disciplines, as well as scientific research, measurement science, statistics, law and policy. OSAC drafts and evaluates forensic science standards via a transparent, consensus-based process that allows for participation by all stakeholders.
